Later Leopard additionally occupied with base up selling which helped in obtaining generosity in the market just as discovering income for the business which was a basic angle in the beginning up of business. In 2011, panther confronted an incredible open door for getting an enormous piece of the overall industry which comprised Building Management System for the Perth International Airport Redevelopment. In this agreement, there were numerous US-Multinational organizations participating, however subsequent to intersection all the obstacles, DCE electrical prevailing with regards to picking up the agreement. In the wake of securing an enormous piece of the pie with Leopard should consider getting into the procedure of expansion in the technique of Ansoffs Matrix. This is so on the grounds that, in the wake of increasing an adequate measure of piece of the pie an organization ought to participat e in enhancing its items and administrations which will help him holding its clients just as drawing in new and potential clients for the company(Hulland et al.,2015). 2. Because of its receptiveness, it has additionally lost its uniqueness among the customers. A huge number are not ready to spend extra for something new, thus a large portion of the BMS faces misfortune. Building Management System include continually refreshing the administration gave by the organization, supposing that we don't do say, the remainder of the customer who is our lasting customers will be disappointed and which may prompt an incredible misfortune. While the occupants who are not consistent to the organizations will appreciate the refreshing administrations without paying anything which likewise may bring about gigantic misfortune (Solomon 2014). In the event that remote innovation is utilized, at that point improvement or the additional expense can be disposed of for the establishment procedure, not just that the work force includes the establishment then their expense can likewise be balanced.( Wierenga et al., 2012) Reference List: Gummesson, E., Fretagsekonomiska institutionen, Stockholms universitet Samhllsvetenskapliga fakulteten 2014, The hypothesis/practice hole in B2B showcasing: reflections and quest for solutions,Journal of Business Industrial Marketing, vol. 29, no. 7/8, pp. 619-625. Let’s demonstrate a few statistics to paint a picture. The following report was conducted by PwC’s annual survey of consumer behavior and as such the report is based on survey feedback.70% of Chinese shoppers pre ferred to shop online once a week40% of European and American shoppers preferred to shop online once a week90% of online shoppers did their entertainment shopping online â€" books, music, and movies.49% of respondents were attracted to deals and promotions17% of online shoppers would begin following the brand after buying a product they liked26% of online shoppers bought products based on their friend or family’s recommendation17% of online shoppers went on to refer their recently purchased product to friends and family28% of online shoppers were interested in purchasing a brand-new product that launched5% of respondents shopped due to the convenience of having customer service via social mediaThe report was conducted in 2013 when online shopping was still in its infancy. In 2018, the United States alone had an astonishing revenue of $501-million in online sales. This figure is expected to increase to $740 million by 2023. A rise of over $200 million in just 5 years. Why do shoppers prefer online platforms? What are the benefits of being an online shopper? What are the disadvantages of an online shopper? Lets dig deep into the consumer’s mind and find out the real reasons.ADVANTAGES OF ONLINE SHOPPINGWith eCommerce tightening its grasp around the neck of consumers, the increase in online shopping is apparent with each passing year. The internet surely has its part to play in revolutionizing the way we acquire our daily needs as well as our luxuries. After all, the ease of adding items to your cart and hitting ‘Checkout’ is beloved by millions. Here are 6 brief reasons why consumers prefer online shopping.1. For the ConvenienceGoing to an actual physical store is a demanding task.It requires you to shower, put on your best clothes, pamper yourself with the finest perfume and groom every strand of your hair to the perfect angle. While buying online requires â€" well nothing at all.Online shopping can be done in your pajamas, in your wedding dress or if you pref er, in nature’s modest attire.Ecommerce dispels all the suspense from your shopping experience and provides you with an efficient way to browse through various brands without store hopping, saving copious amounts of time.Online marketplaces are always open 24/7 and don’t have working hours. This flexible factor is the biggest positive in the modern world of convenience.Digital items like video games and music can be downloaded instantly without the need for plastic or any physical packaging, thus promoting an eco-friendly way to shop.Digital items are also on-demand and you’ll have full access to your product within seconds of purchasing them.Avoid those lengthy shipping times!2. Effortless Price-to-Value ComparisonsWhen buying a product, you undoubtedly compare it with another brand to get the best value and price. In a physical store, you’ll have to gather the items together and individually find out the difference between them. And even then, the specifications aren’t cle ar to your purpose. An online store helps the consumer by listing all the specifications and product measurements in detail. This provides the buyer with enough information to choose between different products instantaneously.Take, for example, you’ve decided to buy a television set and are at a crossroads while deciding between the top 3 brands â€" Sony, Samsung, and Panasonic. By simply pulling over a price comparison chart with the product specifications, you’ll receive information on all 3 products in one single view screen. This allows you to judge which TV brand is the right one for you in a matter of minutes. In a physical store, you’d have to arrange all 3 television sets together to get an understanding, and most stores aren’t willing to go through the hassle. Hence, you’re left at the mercy of a store representative and their recommendation.Another advantage of eCommerce shopping are reviews left by shoppers to assist you with a product.Websites like Amazon and Wal mart have a star rating system to help other buyers decide if the product is of high quality or not.3. Discreet PurchasesAs humans, the way others perceive us is extremely important in a social living space. Hence, we live dignified lives in society while we explore our inner desires in private. That’s where online shopping comes in.With adult toys, provocative undergarments, and sexual wellness products filling up the shelves of online stores, it makes it comfortable for someone to explore their sinful cravings without the constant paranoia of society’s judging eyes on them.Privacy in online shopping is one of the biggest reasons consumers prefer to shop online rather than a physical store.Choosing an online experience eliminates the chance encounter of a nosy neighbor during one of your off-road shopping trips.4. Discounts and Promotions via Personalized WishlistThere’s no reliable way to find out about the latest product releases if you aren’t visiting your local mall ever y weekend. Doing so in a digital world is painful with so many websites. The modern shopper has a quick fix to this problem.Simply whip out your smartphone and browse through all the categories with the latest products and sales listed. Utilize the various filters to streamline your experience. Thanks to wishlists, never miss out on price drops or hourly sales on your favorite items because you were too busy getting your teeth whitened at the dentist.A watchlist or wish list is when you add an item that isn’t on sale into a specific list of items that you wish to buy in the future. Many online stores provide you with alerts when the price of the item drops, or a discount coupon is available to use.Online shopping can save you a lot of money when you shop during sales. Many of the sales are usually customized around festive seasons like â€" Halloween and Christmas.5. No Crowds No Sales PressureA marketplace is a daunting place for people that hate crowds. Especially, during the holid ay season, when you head up to your local mall only to be greeted by a frenzy of people.Apart from expecting a delayed delivery, online shopping sites don’t have any inconvenience of dealing with a large crowd of people.Their websites are updated to handle a horde of shoppers with minimal downtime.Another aspect that makes online shopping accessible is avoiding pesky salesmen that pressure you to buy a product.Socially anxious individuals often fall prey to sales pressure and make a purchase that they later wish they didn’t.This form of sales interaction is entirely avoidable with no salesmen present when you shop online.6. Gifting is PainlessIt’s Father’s Day! Unfortunately, you’ve forgotten to purchase a gift for your dear dad.To make matters worse, it’s also the middle of the night and no reputed store worth their money would be selling a worthy present for your dad at this ungodly hour.Don’t sweat it! With just a click away and over a million specialized gifting op tions to choose from, occasions are no longer a chore for online shoppers.Whether it’s a wedding anniversary or Valentine’s day, online stores are equipped to offer their customers a range of gift wrappers and ensure your loved ones receive their gifts on time. This makes it an incredibly convenient way to gift family and friends who live over long distances or in different countries. Many online shoppers provide gift vouchers or gift cards that can be topped up with their preferred currency. This allows for a more personalized gifting experience that allows the recipient to choose a product from their own wishlist.DISADVANTAGES OF ONLINE SHOPPINGWe’d be lying if we told you there were no flaws in the online shopping experience. In fact, many of these red flags appear much more commonly with a billion people choosing online shopping as their preferred way to purchase products.Let’s unfold these drawbacks.1. Credit Card TheftsSure, having your purse or wallet stolen while shoppi ng at the mall is likely. But it’s unlikely that the thief is going to be using your credit card minutes after stealing it.And it’s even more unlikely for you to go hours before noticing that your precious plastic card is stolen. All it takes is a call to your bank’s customer support to have your card blocked before any damage has been done.Unfortunately, it’s not as simple when you shop online.Online shopping is a thriving ground for virtual pickpocketers. In a report by Experian, credit card fraud increased by a whopping 30% from 2016 to 2017.Most of the attacks take place when shoppers enter their credit card information on online sites that aren’t encrypted. A non-encrypted site is like living in a house without a door â€" anyone can sneak a peek and there isn’t any privacy.Having your credit card information stolen leaves you exposed to data breach and lets criminals utilize your card multiple times before you know what’s happening.Apart from losing money, credit ca rds have personal information regarding your identity. In 2017, Javelin Research demonstrated that credit cards are among the leading causes of identity theft in the United States leaving 16.7 million shoppers affected.2. Delayed ShippingPicture the following example. After placing an online order for a top-of-the-line Gibson electric guitar, you excitedly spend the entire night playing air riffs with an invisible guitar. The joy is limitless, purchasing something you’ve always wanted is a thrilling affair. The next day you wait by the window and hope for the familiar dress code of your logistics guy to pop up in the distance. After waiting anxiously for a few hours, you glance through the details of your delivery order to see if the delivery date is right. The date seems to be perfect, what could be wrong?Tragically, you’re a victim of delayed shipping. It’s only a matter of time before you receive an apologetic message from your logistics partner on your product being delayed d ue to unforeseen circumstances. The excitement level has all but diminished. You immediately call the customer support and after a few unpleasant conversations, the huge mistake of purchasing online over your retail store is apparent.Welcome to an online experience that numerous individuals face daily and are the bane of good shopping experience.Delayed shipping is a deal-breaker. Especially, when it takes a few minutes to head down to your local store and buy the item.Unfortunately, many online stores don’t usually offer a cancellation after shipping the product unless a valid reason is provided. This leaves you with no choice but to collect your product when it reaches you.Customers are usually at the mercy of the eCommerce site and their logistics partner. It’s even worse when you’ve prepaid for the product.3. Hidden Costs, No After-Sales Assistance, Lack of Bargaining PowerThe very advantages that make an effortless shopping experience is a disadvantage when the need aris es.While we don’t want pesky salespeople at our faces advertising products to us, we can’t deny that there are positives to take away from this. For example â€" a product demonstration is important if you wish to know what your product is capable of without having buyer’s remorse. And more reasons are listed below.Online products have a wall of text of products followed by an advertising video that doesn’t say much about them. The customer doesn’t physically feel the product, nor do they understand the flaws. Many online products have a ‘No-return’ policy, and you’re stuck with what you buy. This makes online shopping quite the gamble. On the off chance your item reaches you in a broken condition, not all online sellers honor the replacement policy and you must follow through with several emails back and forth leaving you wasting your time. Also, you’re unable to bargain the price of the item below the price tag shown, and that’s where the online marketplace reflects a place that favors sellers.Unlike retail stores, there isn’t any sales representative to give you an after-sales service of the product and this strips the buyer from their purchasing power.Clothing products when bought in a retail store provide a trial room to try out. Online shopping requires you to ship the product if the size doesn’t fit. It may take days to weeks for you to receive an exchange.4. Don’t be Lured by Pretty Product ImagesOne aspect that online stores repeatedly do is to polish and add intensifying pictures on their home and product page to lure consumers. Many of these images don’t represent the actual product.Numerous online sellers get away using this gimmick by adding a ‘No Return’ clause in the long list of terms and conditions that no buyer usually reads before they buy.The text could be something simple like ‘Subjects in the photograph don’t necessarily reflect the actual product’. This is their ‘Get out of Jail Free’ card, quite lite rally.By stating it in their TOS, the seller can refuse a claim for refund or replacement while the customer is left with a poor-quality product. This makes online shopping a frightening experience.IS THE RETAIL STORE DEAD? EXPLORING THE ADVANTAGES OF A PHYSICAL STOREWhen was the last time you walked into a retail Polo store to explore their latest offerings? Not for a decade? Here’s a fun fact you probably didn’t know â€" Polo shut down operations on their flagship store located in New York City. With a huge number of customers preferring to take their business online. Many brands have exited the retail store business model and have embraced the online route. But the question still stands. Is the retail store dead? Or are there advantages to shopping in the traditional way?Let’s find out.ADVANTAGES OF BUYING IN PERSONThe short answer is â€" No, the physical store is not dead.Brands all over the world would shut their physical storefronts if there was no profit to be made in physica l stores. The existence of physical stores is proof that retail stores are still profitable in today’s times and provide exclusive advantages over online shopping. Here are some of the reasons brands continue to sell their merchandise through storefronts.1. Personalized TouchIf it wasn’t obvious to you already, there are a good number of shoppers that still love the good old-fashioned experience of physically feeling their products before buying. The hands-on product experience offers plenty of advantages such as in-store trials before purchasing or free samples to understand the product better.Online product images only provide a brief display of what the product is. When we shop physically, we use our senses like touch, smell, and sight to provide us with information on the quality of the product.Product demonstrations are physical when you buy in person.Let’s say you wanted an electronic item with many features, a store representative will perform a demo in front of you to pro vide you with information about the product. With this type of presentation, you’ll make intelligent buying decisions.Online items are devoid of any physical touch and hence, you are left at the mercy of reading the product description for product information. The personalized experience is why retail stores are a boon to shoppers that prefer a sensory shopping experience than a convenient one.2. Impulse PurchasesImagine you’re watching a musical film and are drawn towards the characters and plot.At the end of the feature-length, you immediately begin to dream visions of becoming a world-renowned musician yourself. After all, the actor in the movie was loved by everyone and he too began from nothing. All it takes is an investment in a high-quality musical instrument, and you aren’t far away from becoming the next Mozart yourself. The euphoric state of mind induced by the movie has released a burst of excitement within you. While this excitement is temporary and fades in time, it ’s caused enough damage to create an impulse to buy an online product that you don’t fully wish to utilize. With online shopping, all you need is a credit card and your product is on its way to you. Impulse buying is at an all-time high with online shopping. With impulse buying, your finances are mismanaged and you’ll dangerously enter a shopping addiction that many buyers dread. With a retail store, instant gratification is out of the question. When you desire a product, you’ll still have to travel to the store and make the purchase.   During this travel time, much of the excitement for the intended product dies and most individuals change their minds about buying a product. 3. Secure PaymentsPayment methods such as cash payments are a much secure option for traditional brick and mortar shoppers. There is no worry about your plastic card being hacked or your customer data being leaked all over the internet. While many retail stores employ modern methods of payment, you can be sure that if you share your card details, it’s all happening in front of you and the identity of the store clerk isn’t a mystery. If you do end up becoming the unfortunate victim of credit card theft due to phishing, you’ll have a face, a company, and a location to pin the blame on.These details assist in investigating the crime and with the use of CCTV footage, the culprit’s identity is revealed with a high chance of your funds being returned to you.Online credit card hackers employ secured networks such as VPNs and other masking software to hide their identities. An article by CSO demonstrates that cybercriminals are among the toughest crimes to persecute simply because the criminals leave no actual evidence and it’s easy to tamper with IP addresses to send the law enforcement on a wild goose chase. Also, in an online cybercrime, the perpetrator is usually located in another country and tracking them is impossible and expensive. The chance of tracking your funds in an online environment is an extremely difficult process and the online shopping experience is one way for people to lose all their finances.Ideally, it’s always better to avoid the online experience altogether and choose a retail store for a much more secure experience. 4. Enjoy the Social ExperienceWhether it’s simply going out with your friends or meeting new people at the mall. The retail store experience is always about human interaction and offers a social atmosphere that isn’t present in an online experience.Having a discussion with your family and friends about what shirt goes well with your jeans are some of the treasured experiences that are lost when you shop online.Engaging in chitchat with the store clerks creates a relatable experience for repeated visits. You’ll be provided with the latest gossip and even the biggest discounts for being a positive person. They can also provide tips on the right size and fit that is appropriate for your appearance. Many malls host communi ty events during holidays and offer plenty of fun-filled events for everyone to participate in. Online stores will never rival the traditional in-store experience when it comes to a social level. Here is an in-depth video of Taylor Romero explaining how technology would revolutionize retail shopping. FINAL THOUGHTSThere is no right or wrong way to shop. There are only sensible and extravagant shoppers to differentiate from. Both categories of shopping experiences are diverse and are very different from each other. A good idea is to maintain a good balance between online shopping and storefront buying. Setting up a list of rules for shopping will create a positive experience. For example â€" Buying online during holiday events helps you avoid crowds. However, offseason, it’s a good idea to head over to a storefront and get a real firsthand experience of the product before purchasing. This lets you experience the joy of shopping between two worlds. What shopping experience do you prefer â€" Online or Retail? Why? Comment below to let us know.

Essay on Infertility and In Vitro Fertilization - 3317 Words

The thought of having a child or children usually begins either before marriage or shortly thereafter for most couples. Many couples begin to ask each other how many children they would like to have together; whether they will be boys or girls; where will they go to school; will they become active in sports; and many other questions. For some couples these dreams begin to diminish over time when they do not conceive a child. They try for many years – following the ovulation cycle of the wife, but conception is never achieved from their efforts. Some of these couples turn to specialists in infertility to help them realize their dreams of a family. Infertility doctors often use various forms of Assisted Reproductive Techniques â€Å"ART† to bring†¦show more content†¦The eggs are then extracted after approximately one-two months of medication. Afterwards, the eggs and the sperm from the husband are then allowed to fertilize to create embryos – preferably w ithout assistance – in a medical laboratory for three to five days before being placed back into the uterus of the wife. The quality of the eggs will determine how long they are left to fertilize; however, the longer they are able to fertilize, the better the chances of a pregnancy. Once the embryos are placed back into the woman’s uterus, it will be up to her body to either accept or reject the embryos and become pregnant. Factors such as the age of the woman, quality of the embryos, and how the organs are situated within the woman all affect the chances of pregnancy. FROM: Matrix Certified Public Accountants (MCPA) Inc. , DATE: January 15 2012 SUBJECT: Beginning the Audit Report (Engagement letter, Engagement checklist, Outline of timeframes and milestones of the audit) Dear Mr. We will write a custom essay sample on Beginning the Audit Process or any similar topic only for you Order Now Lancaster, This letter is to confirm the understanding of the arrangements for the objectives and terms of the upcoming auditing procedure for Apollo Shoes, Inc. Our firm is pleased to continue to work with your company and perform the audit of the year ending on December 31, 2011. Our PCA staff members would like to confirm the audit objectives, terms, limitations, and nature of the services provided for this engagement. The highlight of our services will cover auditing financial statements that include the income statement, balance sheets, statement of retained earnings, and the statement of cash flows. The financial audits will make sure that financial statements are presented according to General Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Since investors, creditors, managers, and government agencies use these statements, it is very important for the auditor to ensure all financial statements conform to GAAP (Arens, Elder, Beasley, 2006). The audit team will also examine and measure the operational performance by studying specific parts of the organization and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of operation activities on the financial statements. Our firm will gladly provide reasonable, but not absolute, assurance services that are performed by professional auditors to enhance the credibility of nternal controls, IT systems, financial statements, compliance with regulation and human resource practices. Our auditors will express conclusion reports that will enhance the confidence of users, creditors, bankers, and management. One of the assurance services provided by our firm is attestation services. â€Å"An attestation service is a type of assurance service in which the CPA firm issues a report about the relia bility of an assertion that is made by another party. Attestation services fall in to four categories: audit of historical financial statements, effectiveness of internal control over financial reporting, review of historical financial statements, and other attestation services that may be applied to a broad range of subject matter† (Arens, Elder,    Beasley, 2006, p. 9). Our team will help to define material weaknesses in the internal controls that can occasionally create material misstatements in the financial statements. With the experience of our team, it is possible to determine whether deficiencies in the reports are significant enough to be considered material weaknesses. The team will first work with the high-risk areas that require additional attention. These areas are sales and sales allowances, accounts receivable, inventory, expenses, property and equipment purchases. We will report our opinion after we are done with all the tests. We will discuss our opinion with you if the result is qualified opinion or if we have any concerns with continuing this engagement. Auditors will obtain documentary evidence to support their testing for the internal control and the examination of all transactions to verify the sufficiency of the information. Our team will need to gain an understanding of your control structure and perform assessments to determine any control risks. However, auditors are not responsible for providing assurance on internal control or identifying significant deficiencies. In addition, auditors are not responsible for detecting errors or frauds that are immaterial to the financial statements. Auditors can provide a detailed examination of all transactions that are performed under a high risk of material errors and can notify the audit committee if any significant deficiencies are deducted. Apollo’s management is responsible to maintain effective internal control over financial reports and make sure the company complies with the laws and regulations. Our team demands that the management provide us with all financial records and related information. We will require that your management team provide us with a letter to confirm management responsibility for the preparation of a financial statement in conformity with GAAP and provide all information necessary in a timely basis for our audit process. The timing of the auditing process and the schedules are listed below for your review. The timely completion of this work will be at the end of our audit work. Our firm’s fees of the auditing process are to be estimated on a base of hourly rates. Our initial estimate of total fees, $250,000. 00, will be billed as work progresses. In the case of unusual circumstances, the fees may be adjusted to the new expansion of the engagement. Unless terminated, amended or otherwise superseded, this letter remains effective for the future years. If your company agrees to the terms and conditions of this engagement, we would like to ask you to sign this letter and return it to us and keep a copy for your references. Orphan Trains Essay Example For Students

Orphan Trains Essay Orphan trains and Carlisle and the ways people from the past undermined the minorities and children of America. The film The orphan Trains tells us the story of children who were taken from the streets of New York City and put on trains to rural America. A traffic in immigrant children were developed and droves of them teamed the streets of New York (A Peoples History of the United States 1492-present, 260). The streets of NYC were dirty, overcrowded, and dangerous. Just as street gangs had female auxiliaries, they also had farm leagues for children (These are the Good Old Days, 19). During the time of the late 1800s and early 1900s many people were trying to help children. Progressive reformers, often called child saver, attempted to curb exploitation of children (The American Promise, 834). One of the people who was obsessed with the plight of children was a man named Charles Brace. He created the NY Childrens Aid Society. This was a program that was best known for Orphan Trains. I n 1853, Brace founded this society to arrange trips, raise the money, and obtain legal permission needed for relocation (the Orphan trains, 1). The reaction to the orphan trains were both positive and negative. The main reason for the orphan trains was not to necessarily help the children but to clean up the streets. The children were treated horrible. They were forced to join in gangs to survive and live on the streets. These children were also known as street Arabs. Children are still being neglected and abused. The film Violence in American Tradition shows a case form the late 1980s. The case involved Lisa Steinberg and how she was murdered by her father. The viewer has to wonder why this wasnt prevented. After watching Orphan Trains the viewer sees haw people tried to solve the problem with children on the streets. There was a lot of controversy over this subject. People didnt know if it was better to take a child from his/her parent that was suppressed in poverty or send the child to a farm or elsewhere to work and start a new life. Brace believed the farmers would welcome homeless children, take them into their homes and treat them as their own (The Orphan Trains, 2). Some of the chil dren were treated fairly while others were treated like slaves. For example, when Elliot Bobo went on the orphan train and was dropped off he was approached by a farmer. The farmer went up to him and made remarks like Oh, youd make a good hand on the farm. With that remark Elliot reacted with a bit and a kick. Everybody in the audience thought I was incorrigible. They didnt want me because I was out of control. This was one of the different things that happened to the children while being shipped off and shipped out. This film surprised me. I never knew that that happened to children in those days. Slavery wasnt just the Negroes and Indians. It made me think how lucky I am to live in the day in age that I do, even though there are still children treated like this. I just was lucky and grew up in a good family. The film had missed emotions but you can develop one conclusion from the film. While certain people are trying to help children others are abusing their rights. This didnt mak e much sense. Their view does understand that there is a stronger need for the protection of children. People in the past worked hard for the future of children whether it was good or bad they thoughts were mostly positive. I fpeople of the future dont continue this trend but in a safer and more humane way than the work from the past will have been useless. .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 , .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .postImageUrl , .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 , .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237:hover , .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237:visited , .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237:active { border:0!important; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237:active , .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237 .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u9218c203e2d99a0c0183ecf6043c8237:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: What Leads to Intervention?: A Case Study of Inter EssayWhen we first started watching the film on the Indian children I thought it was going to be helpful. But, as the movie progressed it made me realize that the Indians were being mistreated and were being brainwashed into forgetting their culture. The film In the Image of the White Man, deal with breaking down the culture of the Indians and turning them white. Richard Pratt, was the man who wanted to incorporate or immerse the Indian culture into the white mans world. In Indian civilization I am a Baptist, because I believe in immersing the Indians in our civilization and when we get them under holding them there until they are thoroughly soaked ( Carlisle Indian Industrial School History,2). The Children in this school had their entire identity transformed. The boys had their hair cut and both boys and girls were given new names. Richard Pratt knew that the children were the future and if he could change them he could wipe out the Indian culture. The children went from wearing moccasins to leather boots, beads to army uniforms, and the only time they would cut their hair normally was in the case of mourning. The children felt like an imitation of a white child. The Carlisle school, forbid the children to speak their native tongue to take away their heritage. Their lives were run as if they were training to be soldiers and had to listen for the commands of the trumpets and the whistles. The Indians learnt Christian hymns and religion. Category: History

Laozi Essays - Taoism, Laozi, Tao Te Ching, Tao, Chinese Philosophy

Laozi Laozi created Daoism, a well-known Chinese philosophy, but very little is known about his mysterious figure. It is said the he was born in the province of Henan in 570BCE (Encarta). Before becoming a philosopher, he worked as a court librarian at the imperial court. He also went by the name Lao-Tzu, which means Old Master. Very little is known about Laozis early life, but he is credited with creating Daoism and writing the Daode Jing, the most widely translated Chinese text. Laozis strong opinions and eccentric beliefs would lead to the formation of Daoism. Laozi overcame many obstacles before gaining followers. His wise council attracted followers, but he refused to set his ideas down in writing. He believed that written words might solidify into formal dogma (Internet 5). Laozi wanted his philosophy to remain a natural way to live life with goodness, serenity and respect. At age 80 he set out toward what is now Tibet, saddened and disillusioned that people were unwilling to follow his path to natural goodness (Grolier). Legend says Laozi set off into the desert on a water buffalo leaving civilization behind (Internet 5). When he arrived at the final gate at the great wall protecting the kingdom, the gatekeeper persuaded him to record the principles of his philosophy for posterity. The result was the Daode Jing. This ancient Chinese classic was translated more than any other book ever; except for the Bible (Internet 6). Laozi gained many followers after writing the Daode Jing. Laozi saw past everyday worries to focus on the dao, or the way of the universe as a whole (Ellis 91). The Daode Jing teaches that the dao is realized through recognition and acceptance of nothingness. Laozi thought that by doing nothing one could accomplish everything. He did not mean to literally do nothing, but to discern and follow the natural forces (Internet 6). First and foremost to be spontaneous in ones actions. He laid down no rigid code for behavior. He believed a person's conduct should be governed by instinct and conscience. Laozi believed that human life, like everything else in the universe, is constantly influenced by outside forces. He believed simplicity to be the key to truth and freedom. Laozi encouraged his followers to observe, and seek to understand the laws of nature; to develop intuition and build up personal power; and to use that power to lead life with love, and without force (Internet 5). Laozis teachings allowed fellow Daoists to have interesting views on the natural world. Laozis legacy will live on forever. His beliefs and opinions about the world as a whole are like none others. Scholars continue to study his teachings and find out more about this mysterious individual. Daoism will always remain one of the most interesting philosophies. Philosophy

Giving It Away †Nothing for Nothing

Giving It Away – Nothing for Nothing I’m going to take a stance here that may rub some of y’all raw. Quit giving away your work. It’s an old mantra with me . . . one that FundsforWriters was founded upon. You cannot make a living giving yourself away. Doctors don’t give away their expertise. Lawyers charge for their services. So do teachers, plumbers . . . even hookers do it. But you need exposure, you may say. No you don’t. Not that kind of exposure. Do you know what you look like when you pitch an editor or agent and the only items on your resume are: 1) Your serial novel on your blog;2) Your articles on websites that do not pay;3) Your poetry for free on your website;4) Your free short stories on anyplace that will take them. But you keep trying to sell your work and nobody buys it. So you figure you’ll post it online and somebody might discover it. Here are the flaws in that logic. LOGIC A. The people hungry for your free work usually aren’t the type willing to pay. Think about it. They’re usually trolling for free work, and continually seek the good deal. They have no desire to pay full price for a book or subscription, maybe not even one copy of a magazine where your work appears, because there’s ample free material available. LOGIC B.Editors and agents do not visit those freebie places. Not unless you happen to be that one in a million writer who trends on Twitter or manages to garner tens of thousands of readers. Not hundreds†¦thousands. Your odds are better pitching to editors. LOGIC C. If you are publishing for free because you keep getting rejected, then your writing might need work. People willing to pay for writing expect to receive a good return for their investment, so your work has to be refined and polished to rate their hard-earned dollar. LOGIC DIf you are publishing for free because you don’t want to learn the ropes of how to submit to publishers and markets that pay, you might not be made of strong enough material to weather this business. Argue with me. Go ahead. Then tell me how much money you’ve made from that â€Å"exposure.† I’m all ears. I’m not trying to hurt your feelings. On the contrary. I want you to make a buck at this business. But too many writers think that giving their work away is â€Å"exposure† or a means to â€Å"getting discovered† when in reality, they usually end up sitting in place and waiting for nothing†¦and doing it for a long time. It’s understandable you need to be proactive, but put that energy to good use in the right direction. 1) Improve your writing2) Sell your work3) Promote yourself. You don’t want to appear so desperate you give it away. In all aspects of your life, how much quality do you attribute to something that was given to you for free? If you give your writing away for free, you cant afford to remain a writer for long. Fight to stick around . . . get paid for your work.

Observation and Reaction assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Observation and Reaction assignment - Essay Example He found that discounting was the future of retail. This strategy led to the success of his business. Relating it to nursing, in order to gain positive patient outcomes, nurses and practitioners must be able to make strategic decisions that prove to be beneficial for patients in the long run (Sare & Ogilvie, 2010). Walton held the view that one should go the opposite way of the conventional methods to be successful. This strategy can be applied to gain patient outcomes by ignoring the traditional ways of dealing with patients and treating them the way others are not following, to make a unique niche. This will attract more patients, and will also improve the quality of health care. For example, under situations when nurses have to deal with drug addicts, they should focus more on their psychotherapy rather than traditional medicines. To conclude, Sam Walton’s leadership style and competencies should be applied in the field of nursing to gain quality patient outcomes. Nurses can use Walton’s strategic planning to improve the quality of services. They are also suggested to use Walton’s nontraditional style for treating

Strategic Analysis Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Strategic Analysis - Research Paper Example The Gulf Region consists of six distinct member countries say Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (International Monetary Fund, 2003). The challenges experienced regarding tools and techniques used for the purpose of evaluation will also be analysed critically. PEST Analysis is a Strategic Management device used for scanning environmental variables in macro level of an economy to examine business prospects of a new organization in the economy or to understand the political, economic, social and technological factors that may influence business operations of an organization (Cullen, 2011). Apart from its stable business in the UK, Costa Coffee has expanded its business in emerging nations such as China, India, Pakistan as well as countries in Gulf Region. In this discussion, how the macroeconomic variables prevailing in the Gulf Region influence the operations of Costa Coffee will be evaluated. Political environment of Gulf Region works towards developing coordination, integration and inter connection among the member countries. Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is the regional intergovernmental body for controlling the economic and political matters arising out of those six countries (Enz, 2009). Hence, uniformity in trade regulations and tax structure can be experienced as a result of strict monitoring and control of GCC which helps foreign companies like Costa Coffee to expand their business in this region. In the post reform period, Government has taken the initiative to reduce the direct, indirect and corporate taxation to a great extent. Replacing the old tax structure with modern tax laws have resulted in severe cut down of tax rates from as high as 55% in Kuwait to as low as 10% in Qatar. Corporate tax has also been range bounded between 10% and 20%. Such enhanced fiscal policy taken by Gulf Countries,

Animal Cruelty effects and relating laws

Animal Cruelty effects and relating laws Different types of animal cruelty have ee around for many years. Laws relating to animal cruelty vary from state to state. As of 2009, about forty-six states  have some felony provisions in their anti-cruelty and/or animal fighting laws (Wisch, 2005). As time passes and new things are being invented, people seem to loose interest in their pets. Even though people use animals for their testing/experiments, there are other ways to get a solution to something. Scientist and many others, find it easier and safer to test on animals than to test on other possible sources. They test products such as makeup, and cologne. They also use animal fur for designer clothing other types of fashion. Innocent animals are being used for useless products that we can live without. Many animals die due to different types of crucial testing. They suffer by going through several procedures. The goal is not to patch up ailing people but to use the human tissues in place of mice, dogs or other lab animals for testing new drugs, cosmetics and other products (New York Times, nd). With the donation of human cells, animal testing will be reduced. This way is safer can be both suited for animals and humans. If the animal- rights movement had a bible, it is Singers 1975 book, Animal Liberation  (New York Times, Jan. 15, pg 30).  Singer calls many of the attitudes human beings have toward other animals speciesism, a concept which can be found throughout history ( Gargaro, 1991). Humans are just like animals as far as feeling pain. Eight billion animals are killed each year in this country for food. More than a thousand animals are killed and shipped to groceries stores to be bought. Slaughtering of cows, pigs, and other animals, happen everyday because consumers keep purchasing meat. Animals on todays factory farms are kept in crowded, filthy enclosures and denied everything natural and enjoyable to them. Most of them have no legal protection from cruelty that would be illegal if it were inflicted on  dogs  or  cats. There are some fruits or vegetables that can give the same protein as meat. The  Humane Slaughter Act  requires that animals be rendered unconscious with one swift application of a stunning device before slaughter.  Animals in slaughterhouses can smell the stench, hear the sounds and often see the slaughter of those before them. As the animals struggle from fright, the human workers who are pressured to keep the lines moving quickly often react with impatience towards the animals.   Numerous cases of deliberate cruelty have been reported including workers who took sadistic pleasure from shooting the eyes out of cattle, striking them in the head, and electrically shocking them in sensitive areas of their bodies. As for the chemistry of the central nervous and endocrine systems, there is no difference between humans and other animals. All free-range, factory-farmed, egg-laying, dairy-producing, or wool-bearing animals that dont first die from disease are trucked to the slaughterhouse.   To minimize costs, animals are crowded and must live in each others excrement.   They are exposed to extreme weather conditions in the open trucks.   Shipping fever, which can be fatal, is common in cattle transported long distances to the feedlots, the stockyards and then the slaughterhouse (Compassionate Action Institute, nd). Animal cruelty can be either deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal. Either way, and whether the animal is a pet, a farm animal, or wildlife, the victim can suffer terribly. People with emotional problems may beat, shoot, or stab animals or set them on fire. Neglect is not giving an animal the right food, water, shelter or vet care. Their misery goes on for so long; animals who die of neglect can suffer just as much as animals who are harmed on purpose. All U.S. states have animal cruelty laws, and 47 states treat some forms of abuse as felonies.  Farmers  and  researchers  can do cruel things to animals that other people cant do legally, but all states have some protection for pets like dogs and cats. There are different cases in animal cruelty, for example cockfighting and dog fighting. Animal cruelty has not gone away. In Brea, California, 85 children, ages ranging from kindergarten through 12th grade, witnessed a cow being slaughtered at Carbon Canyon Christian School, according to PETA Action Alerts. The rational for having the students witness this cruel act was that they could see this act, instead of only experiencing it through the books they had read during the year. Chances are if an animal is being abused and there is a child in that household, then the child is also being abused. Chances are that a child abus ing an animal can grow up to be someone who commits other violent crimes. Studies also found that a history of animal abuse was found in 25% of male criminals, 30% of convicted child molesters, 36% of domestic violence cases and 46% of homicide cases (The National Animal Abuse Registry, nd). While prosecution of animal cruelty cases is generally considered the exclusive purview of law enforcement, veterinarians who routinely examine and treat sick and injured animals occupy a unique role in the legal process of identifying cruelty and bringing its perpetrators to justice. People engage in animal cruelty, otherwise known as animal abuse, in every city throughout the world. There are many reasons why people mistreat animals some individuals act on sadistic desires others act unintentionally, harming animals with their carelessness. But the true abuse is systemic, involving the choices we make as a collective. Animals are used as dummies because people think they arent harming anyone by doing so. In the past few years, organizations and individuals have been using the power of the internet to spread awareness of animal cruelty facts a great sign considering animal abuse will only continue on a massive scale until enough people come face-to-face with the statistics. To fight this abomination, activists, scientists, authors, lawyers, and politicians have sacrificed their valuable time and money, occasionally their lives, to save suffering animals. With gratitude to those who accumulate animal cruelty facts and educate the populace, people are finally ta king notice of suffering animals and the mistreatment they undergo.

This love grew to where I started taking in snakes that people didn’t want as pets anymore so I would care for them. I started out with two constrictors one blood python and one red tailed boa. I still have both of these snake today the python is 7ft and ninety pounds and the boa is 5 feet and about fifty pounds. At first my parents were going to have a heart attack but they accept it now.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  While I was working at the zoo I applied to take the test for caring for exotic and endangered animals. It had taken forever to get my permits and even with them it is still hard to purchase a lot of animals. When I moved out of my house and got my own place I wanted to start a breeding program for venomous snakes for other zoos in the country. I don’t sell my snakes to them I just donate them so other people can see and learn from them that they are not Satan’s creatures and are quite docile.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚   The first snake that I had purchased was a horned pit viper (which had taken me about 5 months to get. I had to hand build all my enclosures due to the fact that each snake needs different humidity, light and enclosure space. As time gone by I had gotten two more breeding pairs one russels viper and one death adder. The two vipers have a high potency of venom but nothing like the death adder, plus the death adder has one nasty attitude problem. The death adder is the third most venous snake in the world and if it did bite me I would only have 10 minutes to inject myself wit the anti-venom or I would be dead, and even with the anti serum I would still be hospitalized for some time.

Picking Cotton

When a traumatic event happens, a multitude of people are affected. In Picking Cotton: Our Memoir of Injustice and Redemption written by Jennifer Thompson- Cannino and Ronald Cotton, the story of Thompson's rape and Cotton's conviction is unraveled through the perspective of both authors. The emotions that both Thompson and Cotton endure in the aftermath of the rape are shown with the alternation of speaker. With the change in speaker in each part of the book, the read gets to see the most significant part of the person's life. The memoir begins with Thompson's rape, in the perspective of her. Telling the horror of Thompsons experience strengths the reader's sympathy towards her as pathos dominates the first section of the novel. Being inside Thompson's mind and knowing her strength throughout the crime acts as a characterization method for Thompson. Since the novel is nonfiction, the typical characterization methods used in other novels are not possible. Knowing how Thompson thinks a nd feels creates traits for her which later makes her conviction of Cotton understandable. The transition to Cotton during his ime in prison enlightens the reader on Cotton's life and also his innocence. An inside look of what a double life sentence can take from an honest man is shown as Cotton reveals his hardships during his memoir. Again pathos was used, showing the struggles and confrontation Cotton faces during his imprisonment. The theme of forgiveness results after Cotton's perspective and thoughts are expressed and he chooses to forgive Thompson for her mistake. Having multiple speakers in the novel also has its disadvantages.By changing perspectives from Thompson to Cotton, the eader is neglected the others thoughts during a certain time. While Cotton tells of his prison time, the read does not know how Thompson is the novel during this time. When the novel changes speakers back to Thompson she is married with children. There is a missing gap of time the reader never knows about. The reader also misses out on Cottons reunion with his community and friends. During times when both Cotton and Thompson are together, only one person's thoughts are shown, blinding the reader to how the other person feels and what they are thinking. The authors' choice to share both of their stories in one novel had both advantages and disadvantages. While the different point of views showed how both Jennifer Thompson and Ronald Cotton were victims as a result of the crime committed by Booby Poole, the reader did not always get the full story of both speakers. Overall, the structure of the novel was strong and made a momentous impact on the reader and accomplished its goal of bringing awareness to wrongful imprisonment and also to forgiveness. In addition to being the largest bankruptcy reorganization in American history at that time, Enron was attributed as the biggest audit failure. In addition, its complex business model and unethical practices required that the company use accounting limitations to misrepresent earnings and modify the balance sheet to indicate favorable performance. The combination of these issues later resulted in the bankruptcy of the company, and the majority of them were perpetuated by the indirect knowledge or direct actions of Lay,Jeffrey Skilling, Andrew Fastow, and other executives. Lay served as the chairman of the company in its last few years, and approved of the actions of Skilling and Fastow although he did not always inquire about the details. Skilling constantly focused on meeting Wall Street expectations, advocated the use of mark-to-market accounting (accounting based on market value, which was then inflated) and pressured Enron executives to find new ways to hide its debt.Show MoreRelatedEnron, the Smartest Guys in the Room.1229 Words   |  5 PagesEnron, the Smartest Guys in the Room.
